2022 National Blue Ribbon School 

Westmoor School is a recipient of the 2022 National Blue Ribbon School award by the U.S. Department of Education. Westmoor is among 297 schools receiving the nation’s highest honor for academic performance.

The Northbrook District 28 School was nominated by the Illinois State Board of Education and is being recognized as an Exemplary High-Performing School based on student scores on the 2021 state assessments in reading, English language arts and mathematics. To qualify, the school-wide performance scored in the top 15% in the state and in the top 40% for each subgroup of students in all three testing areas.

Academics

Students K-5 receive a full day of academics: literacy studio (reading & writing), mathematics, science, and social studies. First through 5th grade also participate in Spanish instruction five days a week. In addition to core content, students have physical education five days a week, with music and art instruction twice a week. Students in 3rd-5th grade have the option of participating in band or orchestra and are provided weekly lessons from our district music department.

Social-Emotional Learning

Northbrook School District has adopted a positive approach to school-wide discipline called, Foundations. The Westmoor staff believes that schools can only be successful when they help children to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Classroom teachers to assist in the social and emotional development facilitate instruction in Second Step curriculum weekly. Additionally, the staff and students receive on-going training and practice cultivating a positive school environment.

PTO

Westmoor is fortunate to have an active parent-teacher organization. Meetings take place on the second Friday of each month from 2:20-3:20. We encourage our families to participate in the monthly meetings to learn about events and activities taking place at Westmoor
