Library Policies
How many books can my child check out?
- Kindergarten: Students in kindergarten can check out two books each time they come to the library, with no more than four library books out at a time.
- Grade 1: Students in first grade can check out 1-4 books each time they come to the library, with no more than four library books out at a time.
- Grades 2-5: Students are encouraged to check out as many as they feel are appropriate for their needs. They too, cannot have more than four books out at a time.
Books that are checked out for class projects, such as reading groups or research, do not count towards the student’s four book limit.
How long does my child have to read their library books?
Students have two weeks to read their library books. If they are not finished reading their books by the time they are due, they can renew the book one more time for an additional two weeks.
What should I do if I think my child has lost his/her library book?
If you think you have lost a library book, please let us know immediately. Your child will still be allowed to check out. However, we will request that the book be paid for or replaced (in the same binding - paperback or hardcover - as the book that they lost). Please make all checks payable to Northbrook School District 28. If you find the book, you will be given your refund - even if you find it next year!
